Youth jobs

Our country’s future prosperity depends on the talents, skills and ambitions of our young people – and we’re committed to unlocking their potential and preventing a generation being lost to work.

That’s why we’re running Backing Young Britain, a national campaign bringing government, business and other organisations together, to create opportunities for young people during the recession – and with over 2 million UK businesses every single opportunity can make a difference.

Investing in young people

Employers are encouraged to commit to at least one of the seven Backing Young Britain offerings. These range from providing work experience opportunities and offering graduate internships to bidding for one of the 100,000 jobs from the Future Jobs Fund, or getting involved with Local Employment Partnerships.

To find out more about the long-term benefits for your company and how to sign up, visit Backing Young Britain [External website].

As well as asking employers to get on board, we’ve also committed to helping young people jobs ourselves, through the September Guarantee and Young Person’s Guarantee.

And finally, we’re investing to take advantage of emerging global trends – in sectors such as the low carbon economy, advanced manufacturing, life sciences and the digital economy. If we want the jobs of the future to be there for our young people, we have to invest to create and win these jobs. To find out how we’ll do this, read Jobs of the Future [PDF].
