Housing

Everyone has a right to a decent, secure and affordable home.  We’re committed to building new homes, and helping you to rent, buy or to stay in your home.

Making sure that families can stay in their homes through the economic downturn is a priority. You can find out about the help available at Mortgage Rescue Scheme [External website] and Homeowners Mortgage Support [External website].

Affordable Housing

Since Building Britain’s Future began in June 2009, we’ve spent over £1 billion on housing and we’ve promised £6 billion in total. Investment is particularly important right now to help Britain through the recession – so we can keep families in their homes and boost the construction industry.

Government funding includes an extra £1.5 billion on our Housing Pledge. This will enable 20,000 new affordable homes by 2010, creating around 45,000 construction jobs. The Housing Pledge has topped up funding to restart construction on stalled construction sites, through Kickstart Housing Delivery [External website].

We’re also making fairer rules for social housing and giving tenants a greater say over where they live in our Choice Based Lettings [External website].

Our investments in housing will leave a lasting legacy in this country. In effect, we are Building Britain’s future: brick by brick.
